Trujillo
Trujillo is located 560 km north (about 9 hours driving) from Lima. Trujillo is the third largest city in Peru with its 650,000 inhabitants. It is mainly known for its Peruvian Paso horses. In Trujillo you will not find the coastal morning fog because the city is located some kilometers from the sea. The climate is sunny (24C).
From Trujillo you can go on excursions to the ancient Chimu capital Chan Chan and to pyramid temples of the Sun and the Moon from the Moche culture. An other excellent option in Trujillo is the beach of Huanchaco where you can see the "caballos" return from fishing in the morning
Chan Chan
The enormous adobe city of Chan Chan dates from approximately 1,300 BC. It is the biggest Adobe city in the world and it is also the largest pre-Columbian city in either north or south America.
Chan Chan was the capital of the Chimu culture (Chimu civilisation from 1,470 to 1,000 BC). The Chimu Empire stretched from Trujillo to the north of Peru. It was one of the last cultures to be absorbed by the Inca Empire. In Chan Chan between 70,000 and 100,000 people used to live.
